Introduction
Man neither knows nor likes either grace or truth. Man has his idea of each of these, but it is not what God means by them. He views grace as antinomianism but views the life demanded by grace as legalism. He cannot accept the truth that God is both just and merciful. To his own destruction, he prefers to hope that he can get to heaven by his own merits.
As an example of Christ showing both grace and truth, the author considers his encounter with the Syrophonecian woman. He showed grace by meeting her need, but also truth by first bringing her to a proper understanding of who he is and who she is.
It is clear from the outset that the author is working from a dispensationalist point of view.
