Now that I have started the page, my thoughts have fled my mind. I shall add them as they come to me. Parts of the page will grow to whole pages as they get large enough.
On the Atonement
The Orthodox churches seem to have more of a "we are saved" concept than "I am saved." They also hold more to the Christus Victor view of the atonement than to the satisfaction and penal substitution view. I wonder if there is a correlation.
Could there be a difference in the concept of Christ paying for one's sins, and of Christ taking one's place? That could speak to different views of the atonement.
A teaching ministry?
Linda suggested to me that I consider doing a radio teaching minstry. What would I call it? What radio station would I use? How would I work out the finances?
Misguided
This may grow into its own page. There are enough candidates for it.
The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice proclaims itself as "pro-family, pro-faith, pro-choice." The suggestion, at least, is that those of us who are pro-life are not really pro-family and pro-faith. How sad to think that they would use religion to try to sanction the abominable killing of the unborn! I would ask them: what choice does the unborn child have whether to be aborted? Since this is supposed to be about "women's rights," what of the rights of all the unborn females who are aborted? God help us!
There is an Episcopal group called Integrity that promotes acceptance of homosexuality in the Episcopal church. Can you say unbiblical? If you want to be homosexual, that is your business. But do not call yourself Christian if you fly in the face of the plain teaching of Scripture on this issue. This group even has a so-called "gay" patron saint, St. Aelred, whose memory they dishonor by trying to make him a supporter of a deviant lifestyle, the attraction of which he fought all his life.
Memorable Quotes
Sometimes someone says something that you remember when you forget everything else they say.
"Let the Bible say what it wants to say." Dr. Sigurd Bryan, Professor of Religion at Samford University, now retired.
"The Light of the world shines on other things." Dr. Billy Harris, former Pastor of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, my home church in Hueytown, Alabama.
"That whole thing could have been avoided with a little more Christian charity." Father Athanasius Wilson (retired), All Saints Antiochian Orthodox Church, Bloomington, Indiana. He was referring to the split with the Oriental Orthodox churches over the duophysite-monophysite controversy.
"A Puritan is a person who is troubled by a nagging suspicion that someone, somewhere, is having a good time." My twelfth grade English teacher, whose name I do not remember. It may have been Mrs. Sanders.
"The mystics plant beautiful flowers. The fundamentalists pull them up because they are not in straight rows." I said that.
Sodom and Babylon
While hearing David Jeremiah talking about Lot and Sodom, it occurred to me to think about comparing and contrasting the images of Sodom and Babylon. The Bible uses both as symbols of evil. What would be interesting is to compare and contrast the forms of evil that they represent and the feelings that they invoke.
I should also comment on the argument about whether the sin of Sodom was homosexuality or inhospitality.
Other
This should go under history somewhere.
Note to expand: Is God divorced? From Blommington Baptist Church days.
